ICY FIELD LIBRARY · FREE TO USE

A place to start.
A record of what you measure.

Browse 2,800 communities selected from port-related reference datasets and take a blank building-science worksheet into your next observation. Start with heat, moisture and airflow; record the conditions before drawing a conclusion.

Find a community

This is an educational directory, not a service-area map. A listing does not establish local service, dispatch, a provider, a current port operation or site conditions. Source classifications and geographic proximity do not establish a physical port in every community.

2,800 communities · 146 countries and territories

Seven groups of 400 rotate every 24 hours from October 23, 2026, at midnight Central Time. All communities remain available to browse.

A BLANK RECORD, NOT A DIAGNOSIS

Bring the context with you

A community worksheet includes its name, country, approximate reference coordinates and source link. Measurement fields stay blank: you fill in the time, temperature, humidity, equipment state and observations yourself.

The download is created in your browser. This page does not collect or upload your measurements. A community coordinate is not a building location, weather reading, port entrance or safe-navigation reference.

Use the complete reference dataset

The October 22, 2026 edition contains 2,800 communities across 146 countries and territories. Each record supplies a community name, country code, approximate reference coordinates and a GeoNames source link. The JSON also includes the seven fixed groups and the featured-group schedule.

Download all 2,800 community records (JSON, 471 KiB). This existing dataset is available without JavaScript; the search controls above are another way to explore it.

These are selected reference records, not current site measurements, certified operating ports or service availability. Keep the source attribution, selection limits and NGA notice with any reuse.

Sources, selection and limits

Place names, country codes and coordinates contain information from GeoNames, licensed under CC BY 4.0. Extracted October 22, 2026; selected, normalized, deduplicated and cross-checked by GCT. Each community links to its GeoNames record.

Selection starts with a same-country, primary-name match between a GeoNames populated place and a nearby port-function record in UNECE UN/LOCODE, release 2025-1. Each selected place then passes one of two geographic screens: within 2 km of mapped Natural Earth water, or within 2 km of an NGA World Port Index point carrying the same UN/LOCODE. Explicitly identified anomalies are excluded. These are reference-data checks, not individual physical-port inspections.

Made with Natural Earth public-domain coastline, island coastline, river and lake data at 1:10 million scale, retrieved October 23, 2026 UTC. Generalized map features may omit channels or include non-navigable streams; proximity alone does not establish port facilities or navigability. The NGA World Port Index corroboration uses the rolling data snapshot acquired October 22, 2026.

This selected directory is not an official UN dataset or endorsement, a list of every port, or proof of current operations. No climate, current weather or local service availability is inferred from these sources. Reference coordinates are not suitable for navigation.

Groups are fixed for this edition and change their featured position every 24 elapsed hours, repeating after seven groups. Times are shown in America/Chicago; the local clock time can shift at daylight-saving changes. Browsing, searching and downloading do not depend on waiting for a group’s turn. Featured rotation is a browsing aid, not a promise that search engines will crawl, index or rank 400 communities per cycle.
