Outdoor-air and pressure imbalance
Commercial symptom guide · ICY AC
Cold enough is not always dry enough.
A space can reach temperature and still carry too much moisture. Warm humid outdoor air, short cycling, oversizing, ventilation, pressure, drainage and control sequence all affect latent performance.
What people notice
Reported symptoms
- Sticky or clammy occupied space
- Condensation on diffusers, glass, pipes or equipment
- Humidity rises when doors, exhaust or outdoor-air systems operate
What may interact
Plausible systems
Short cycling or equipment oversizing
Coil, airflow, condensate or control-sequence issue
Envelope, roof, plumbing or other moisture source
The first useful field packet
Collect evidence that can change the decision.
Record the building under the condition that produces the complaint. Keep direct observations, measurements, trade findings and hypotheses visibly separate.
- 01
Indoor and outdoor temperature, dew point and relative humidity
- 02
Runtime, cycling and ventilation state
- 03
Pressure direction at doors and relevant zones
- 04
Condensate path, wet materials and known water events
Avoid expensive loops
Do not spend past the proof.
- Adding cooling tonnage as a humidity cure
- Cleaning visible growth without stopping the moisture source
- Ignoring outdoor-air and exhaust operation
Straight answers
Questions businesses ask first.
Why is my business humid even when the AC is cold?
Temperature control and moisture removal are related but different. Short runtime, high outdoor-air load, pressure imbalance, drainage faults or an oversized system can leave the space cool and humid.
Will a bigger AC remove more humidity?
Not necessarily. Oversized equipment may satisfy sensible temperature quickly and stop before adequate moisture is removed.
Is high humidity an emergency?
Active water intrusion, electrical exposure, severe condensation or suspected contaminated HVAC material needs prompt responsible assessment. Life-safety conditions require emergency services or the appropriate licensed provider.
